Growth of DAB+

DAB+ is the platform of listening of the future.

Australian radio broadcasters have secured their digital future and embraced digital radio with DAB+ now switched on in 5 metro markets. Plus, there are up to 20 new digital only stations in each market, along with additional pop-up or event stations.

These new digital only stations account for 20% of listening on the platform and they are stimulating exciting new partnership opportunities for advertisers. The remaining 80% of listening is devoted to analogue stations that are being re-broadcast on the DAB+platform.

Fast Facts:

  • It’s free to air for consumers through a DAB+ radio receiver or via web streaming.
  • So far over 406,000 digital radios have been sold and more than 700,000 listeners are tuning in.
  • 38% of people in metro areas are likely to purchase a digital radio in the next 12 months. Their top two reasons for wanting to buy a digital radio are for the new features and sound quality.
  • Over half (52%) of people who own a digital radio listen to more radio.
  • Recently, BMW announced that digital radios will soon be installed in some of their vehicles.
